Art Installation “UNITED COLORS OF TIMOR-LESTE| Prototype 001”. In this installation, the women of Timor-Leste, who weave Tais (traditional woven fabrics of Timor-Leste) are represented with their handwoven Tais. These Tais are often used by politicians in a suit, at official meetings, but not necessary as a showcase of unity. In a country dominated by male politicians, perhaps more than 90% are men in leadership positions, where the rights of women, girls and children are still not guaranteed.

Patterns of a

Normal life Patterns

(2022 - 2023)

Patterns of a "normal" life are a collection of white reliefs (seed banks) in the carton Pierre technique (paper, plaster and wood glue and in this mix I added tree and flower seeds) in where I print the items that are and/or life around me, which I use in patterns or are patterns by themselves. Often the reliefs are made in a serie of 3, where in I see a connection and/or relation. In an apocalyptic event, where everything is destroyed, trees and flowers will grow out of these reliefs!

This is a coffin, made for Camilio’s size, with a high-pressure compartment inside so he may take his lifetime Co2 exhaust / footprint with him, into his grave. A high-pressure valve and hose are connected to the coffin and to a high pressure cylinder, so the CO2 from the cylinders – gotten from a filter catch system, which catches Co2 out of our air –, may be injected into the coffin.

The key of Hibernation Box is about the exploration of the desire to be able to shut oneself off for a while, like the pause button on your remote control. When COVID-19 hit the world, and lockdowns and mandatory quarantine became a reality. People responded to this differently and have gone/are going through this with different experiences and emotions.

This is a hospital bed in which Camilio laid a tree trunk of 180cm long, which is roughly his high. The tree is connected to a heart monitor, water / oxygen and a drip. In this work we see a dead trunk in a bed, to focus on what we normally not see – the tree trunk represents deforestation, and the damages being inflicted to the environment as a whole (and the global warming it is inflicting), but also the artist and his fears.

All over the world mathematical lessons are given and almost everybody will get lessons about the surface / perimeter of a triangle, square and circle. Personally Camilio would like to add here the story of Paul Cezanne, one of the front runners of cubism. Cezanne saw the world around him build up out of sphere’s, cubes, cones, cylinders, etc. so he could paint like he did. Camilio would like to combine these two facts and bring culture back on to these forms.
